The “S” Word

StockSnap_OCVYX6FNQN

You’re new at this aren’t you

I can already tell

You do it so grudgingly

Yet you do it so well

You embrace it

Feeling it deep within yourself

But then you’re apologetic

Retreating into yourself

You don’t do it often

You shy away from it too

You try not to do it

Saying ‘it’s just not “you”’

But you have to do it first

You have to do it too

You can’t always wait

For others to do it to you

It’s impossible to do it too much

Go crazy, let loose

It’s not about anyone else

You are doing it for you!

You look so uncomfortable

When others do it to you

But then I see you blossom

And I see you bloom

It seems I can see right through you

You don’t quite believe in you, do you?

Words matter

That is the truth

They have an effect on you

And you have the power to choose

So talk lovingly to yourself

Speak to yourself about you

Recognize how special you are

Tell yourself you love you

Your essence is real

Not a figment of your imagination

So use your loving words

For the purpose of creation

Don’t be afraid

Break out of your cocoon

Be confident enough to spread your wings

And your dreams will take flight soon

You’ve grown up, so glow up

Embrace your best self

You’re grown up, so glow up

You owe it to your health

To your mental wealth

And to your present self

You’re allowed to love

You’re allowed to give

You’re allowed to be confident

You’re allowed to live

Just as you are

Just as you are

Love yourself

Give love to yourself

Fall in love with yourself

Just as you are

That person in the mirror

Your exact reflection

Is cause for admiration

And cause for affection

Stop imagining yourself tomorrow:

Ten pounds lighter

A shade whiter

A hue darker

A degree after

A job interview gone right

A publishing deal in sight

A lover on your arm

A finger laden with diamonds

A skinny neck supporting heavy hair

A thigh gap or thinner over there

A baby bump

Or otherwise fiercer

Look to the future

But love in the present

Your presence is a present

Your love will unlock your ascent

Of course you want to do more

And be more

And see more

And be seen more

There’s always more

That’s for sure

But in aspiring for more

If you love yourself less

You will never really be more

Or achieve fulfilling success

So why don’t you do it more

Why doesn’t it resonate in your core?

Why do you glow up

Then retreat, unsure?

Why do you find it so hard

To give in to your deeper feelings?

Why does the thought of loving yourself

Send your mind reeling?

Why can’t you see what I see?

Why don’t you know what I know?

You don’t feel the weight of your crown

Or see the rays of your glow

Take a second

Look at your whole surface

See how you take up spaces

See how your exhale changes places

See how beautifully your heart races

See how quickly your brain calculates

See how thoughts race through your beautiful mind

See just how many beautiful things you can find

Don’t look for someone to love you

Look to you to love you

Look inside and look around

You’ll realize you’re really quite profound

There’s no one like you

No one can love you like you

No one can look as deeply into your intricacies

As you

You can

You should

You will

You do

Go ahead

Go love you some YOU

You owe Self Love to yourself

Each and everyone of us do

Lovingly,

Me to You

That is my take home. It’s so easy to loose track of the present. One can be SO focused on the future so the point one does not enjoy the present at all.

Look to the future, but love in the present- I’m loving this right here because it is such a great reminder not to procrastinate one’s life away. The future isn’t assured, so why leave to it what can be enjoyed now??

No one can love you like you love you.

Your presence is a present indeed. It’s clicking into life’s roll call. We so often forget that without “Me”, there never will be a “We”. So love you and then you can love your neighbour. In other words love your neighbour as yourself.
I overheard a conversation at a nursery last week. The woman was picking plants for her garden. She turned to her man she was with
” My garden must look better than Audrey’s this year!”
The man responded ” Audrey still beat you! How? I’m buying plenty flowers this year.”

“Audrey’s garden still better. Why? Because Audrey do her garden for she, and you do your garden for she! Do what you do for yourself to make you happy first.” The Caribbean cadence of speech made that wise answer so keen.
